GS#71: Happy Chinese New Year!

Hello… Sweet blog friend… the week just passed by  so fast!! It’s friday again for another Get Sketch #71. Here is the sketch:

Can you see my focal image stamp? So so cute! Love it. It’s sponsored by the Pink Cat Studio!! How generous! Look out at their website for more digital images. They are all so so CUTE!! I have fun coloring them using copics markers. I am still practicing my coloring. Not really good at it! I will keep trying and have fun with it! 🙂 I die cut the shape from spellbinder, stamped my background with hero art clouds background stamp and then impressed it with sunshine papertrey impression plate.  I have pop up some of its hats and nose of the owl. Die-cut the tag and hand written the sentiment ” Happy Chinese New Year” and tie to the hand of the owl. Isn’t it so cute?

Since Chinese New Year is around the corner in next 2 weeks, I thought I will share on the blog what’s Chinese New Year meant for Asian in Asia. Each year is represented by one of the 12 zodiac animals. 2008 is year of the Rat, the start of a 12 year cycle. 2009 is the year of the ox. 2011 is the year of Rabbit.

The Chinese New Year celebration last for 15 days but in most countries, the first and usually the second day of Chinese New Year is designated as public holidays.

The major celebrations during the Chinese New Year are New Year eve reunion dinner 除夕团年饭, visiting on New Year’s Day 拜年and the yuanxiao 元宵the 15th  day and the last day of the new year. The Chinese New Year celebration is a colorful, symbolic and joyous time for gathering, visiting friends and families.
